1 Timothy 3:14-15 Although I hope to come to you soon, I am writing you these instructions so that, 15 if I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.
This passage was taken from Paul’s letter to Timothy in which he outlined the qualifications for church leaders. But you may notice that he also emphasizes a difference in how we are to act in church, calling it “God’s household”, and “the pillar and foundation of the truth”. What is that truth? It is Jesus Himself!
John 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Now go on and read the final verse of Paul’s letter to Timothy.
1 Timothy 3:16 Beyond all question, the mystery from which true godliness springs is great:
He appeared in the flesh,
was vindicated by the Spirit,
was seen by angels,
was preached among the nations,
was believed on in the world,
was taken up in glory.
This morning, when you enter the doors of your church, stop for a moment. Look around, and think about what you’ve just read. How are you going to conduct yourself? How are you going to teach your children and grandchildren to conduct themselves in church – as though it were just a good social gathering, or “God’s household”?
Let’s pray that God would open the eyes of every worshipper today, so that they could really see the truth – Jesus Christ – in His church.
